Last Thursday I spent the day with my friend Sharon Fraley at East Rivendell Farm. I dropped off some of my art for her store and stayed to help pick some heirloom tomatoes. This [...] With August comes a bounty of ripened tomatoes, sweet peppers, squash, zucchini, basil, and eggplant…all of the ingredients for ratatouille. It’s a good way to preserve the harvest all in one stew…and it freezes well too. It was a beautiful day to be in the garden. It sure beats wasting a day in court!

I have been battling Montgomery County for over three years to keep our small backyard flock. In December 2010 a circuit court judge ruled in our favor allowing us to keep our hens. Despite this win the county is attacking me again (with your tax dollars) trying [...] Chioggia beets fresh from the garden. Last week I harvested these beautiful beets and cooked them up Harvard style,just like my mom used to. They were delicious!
